Lactation Services

Corvallis Birth Center

How we feed our babies, and how we reflect on our feeding experience, sets the foundation for first foods for infants and the mother baby bond.

At Corvallis Birth & Wellness Center, we provide lactation services as part of our commitment to continuous and comprehensive care for the whole family.  As midwives, we are trained to provide assistance and support breastfeeding from pregnancy and beyond.  In addition, we have the specialized services of our IBCLC Board Certified Lactation Consultant and Certified Nurse Midwife, Debbie Alba to help you through this journey.

Lactation Services

Our lactation services include a recorded ‘preparation for breastfeeding’ class, lactation support from our midwives, extensive lactation consultation for both routine and complex feeding issues from Debbie Alba, CNM, IBCLC – our Midwife and Board Certified Lactation Consultant, and our newly formed support group (on-line) apply called Eat, Sleep, Feed.

As part of our commitment to helping you embrace and navigate the postpartum period with support, we provide a free breastfeeding and newborn care class. The class is four sessions and will provide you with the tools you need to get off to a great start with breastfeeding.  The class is recommended to be viewed by both partners, and completed around the 36th week of pregnancy.

Session 1: Breastfeeding benefits:

Session 2: Establishing Milk supply:

Session 3: Latch and positioning:

Session 4: Newborn:

We provide lactation consultations from our experienced, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant to the general public.  Debbie Alba CNM, MSN, IBCLC has been a board certified lactation consultant for 20 years.  She provides lactation consultation for both routine and complex feeding issues and will help walk you through your breastfeeding journey to help you meet your goals and achieve success.  Lactation consultations include a full assessment of both mom and baby and a feeding observation. You will go home with a clear plan in place for next steps and insight into your infant’s individual needs.

We also provide a bi-weekly support group for people in their last trimester and through the infant’s first year of life. The support group focuses on the postpartum journey, including topics such as sleeping, pelvic floor therapy, postpartum mental health, breastfeeding support, infant neuroregulation and more.  The support group is offered on a drop in basis, but a consent is required on file to assure confidentiality of sensitive topics in the forum.  For more information, please email or call our office at 541-286-4030.
