Lactation Services

Corvallis Birth Center

How we feed our babies, and how we reflect on our feeding experience, sets the foundation for first foods for infants and the parent-baby bond.

At Corvallis Birth & Wellness Center, we provide lactation services as part of our commitment to continuous and comprehensive care for the whole family.  As midwives, we are trained to provide assistance and support breastfeeding from pregnancy and beyond.  In addition, we have the specialized services of our new Lactation Counselor Emily Maize to help you through this journey.

Lactation Services

Our lactation services include a recorded ‘preparation for breastfeeding’ class, lactation support from our midwives, extensive lactation counseling for routine and complex feeding issues from Emily Maize.  Emily is also available to our clients during pregnancy to have a special visit to anticipate their breast feeding needs or concerns and is generally offered around 37 weeks.

Our free drop-in infant feeding and weight support group meeting on Thursdays from 10:30 – 11:30 AM in our Community Room.  This drop-in group is available to anyone in the community and is staffed by one of our Midwives and Emily.

As part of our commitment to helping you embrace and navigate the postpartum period with support, we provide a free breastfeeding and newborn care class. The class is four sessions and will provide you with the tools you need to get off to a great start with breastfeeding.  The class is recommended to be viewed by both partners, and completed around the 36th week of pregnancy.

Session 2: Establishing Milk supply:

Session 3: Latch and positioning:

Session 4: Newborn:

We provide lactation counseling from our Lactation Counselor to the general public.  Emily Maize and our Midwives provide lactation consultation for both routine and complex feeding issues and will help walk you through your breastfeeding journey to help you meet your goals and achieve success.  Lactation consultations include a full assessment of both parent and baby and a feeding observation. You will go home with a clear plan in place for next steps and insight into your infant’s individual needs.

We also provide a weekly support group for people with infants.  The support group is offered on a drop-in basis in our Community Room on Thursdays from 10:30-11:30 AM and open to all in the community.  For more information, please email [email protected] or call our office at 541-286-4030.
